Where is this underground river?

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park or commonly known as the underground river is about 50 km north of the city of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines. It is an 8.2 km. navigable underground river that winds through a cave before flowing directly into the South China Sea. Major formations of stalactites and stalagmites, and several large chambers are found inside the cave. This underground river is known to be the world's longest underground river with a clear lagoon at its entrance with ancient trees growing right to the water's edge. Animals such as monkeys, large monitor lizards, and squirrels are found in the beaches near the river.

This underground river hopefully would be considered as one of the seven wonders of the nature. My family and I were fortunate enough to see this wonder just this summer. It was really a great sight and we were able to take a lot of pictures which I would treasure for the rest of my life. If you like to travel and loves nature watching, I highly recommend that you visit the Puerto Princesa Underground River as soon as possible. Eventually, when this natural park would be voted as one of the seven wonders of the nature, prices related to visiting the area would definitely increase significantly.

How to Get There?

You can go to the island of Palawan Philippines within an hour and five minutes' flight from Manila to the capital city of Puerto Princesa. It can be reached on a 20-hour trip by sea also. There are many flights to Puerto Princesa by Philippine Airlines (PAL), Cebu Pacific and Zest Air. You have to check their websites as these flights changes from month to month.

On arrival in Puerto Princesa City, you have to book a hotel, pension house or the like within the city itself because the underground river is another 2 hours travel from the city. Once settled within the city, you have to get a permit from the Underground River Booking Office located at the center of the City. The Management strictly enforces a “No permit, No entrance policy”.
